On a sloppy, misty pitch on April Fool’s Day, The Greensburg Maulers faced off against The South Pitt Hooligans. Greensburg was looking to avenge a lop-sided loss in the fall at the hands of the Hooligans. On this day, the Maulers were no joke.

Greensburg jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes with tries from rookie inside center Adam Kowatch and second year prop Jared Bailey. Captain Hudnell ‘Hudson’ Caldwell extended the lead with a try and conversion 8 minutes later making the score 17-0.

The Hooligans fought back making a break down the near sideline but dotting the ball down an inch short of the goaline thanks to a try-saving tackle by Caldwell. Kowatch added two more scores before the break making the score at the half, Greensburg 31 – South Pitt 0.

It was more of the same in the second half with two more tries from Caldwell, one more from Kowatch, and veteran flanker Matt ‘Hoagie’ King scoring two of his own. The Hooligans could have easily given up, but battled hard the entire match and at the 80th minute spoiled Greensburg’s bid for a shutout with a try and conversion to end the match. Final score – Maulers 58 – Hooligans 7.
